Summer 1996 saw the opening of new vantage building on the rock of the Sphinx. The vantage hall with its terrace stands 117 metres above the Jungfraujoch–Top of Europe and offers incredible views.  The building is accessed by a spacious double lift with a capacity of up to 1200 persons per hour. The trip to the Top of Europe is both spectacular and safe. Well over 500,000 visitors travel to the Jungfraujoch-Top of Europe every year.

The Jungfraujoch is not only an attractive vantage point, but also the ideal location for a variety of research projects. Clean air and ideal access by train provide the prerequisites for a wide range of scientific studies. Astronomers, geologists, physicists, meteorologists and hydrologists make valuable contributions to environmental research.
