Mountain cleanup at Grindelwald-First - 22 June 2013

On Saturday 22 June 2013, the mountain cleanup will take place at Grindelwald-First. The mountain meadows and trails must be cleared of cigarette butts, cans, chewing gum and other waste. Volunteers are wanted!

We will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Firstbahn valley station. There is a free return ticket and a free lunch for all helpers. Weather permitting, the working day will last until 4 p.m. Shoes that are suitable for the mountains and work gloves are a must.

Freeride and freestyle events in Mürren - Schilthorn

From 8 -17 March, 2013 freeskiers and snowboarders in the Mürren - Schilthorn area compete in ​​two events at the same time: the preliminary is the 7th White Style Open with the «Night Air» big air contest as the main attraction on Saturday 9 March. From 8 to 10 March 2013, freeskiers and snowboarders will meet at the 7th Whitestyle Open in Mürren and put their skills to the test at events including the «Night Air» Big Air Contest. The first Kick the Vik Freeride Festival Mürren will be launched at the same time. During the week, the freeriders will enter heats to qualify for the grand final on the weekend of 16/17 March 2013. A varied fringe programme with ski and material tests, a freeride camp and partying will provide plenty of entertainment.

70th International Inferno Races

Mürren will once again be the scene of devilish goings-on from 23 – 26 January 2013. The 70th edition of the International Inferno Races guarantees sporting highlights, fun and thrills for 1850 competitors and many spectators. The races start on 23 January at 16.30 with the night cross-country leg of the super combination, followed by the giant slalom on 24 January. On Saturday, 26 January, the morning after the Inferno procession, intrepid ski racers take on the big event, the devilish 14.9 km downhill.

Opening of children’s playground on Winteregg near Mürren

A new children's playground will be opened at the Winteregg Mountain restaurant (near Mürren) on Saturday 15 September. Everything will revolve around the theme of "On theAlp": an alp hut, barbecue spot, hay loft and hand-carved farm animals will make the playground great fun. Come and celebrate the opening with us and the Circus Balloni, starting at 11.00 h. Clown Pepe from Circus Balloni will entertain children with circus games and animation, juggling, tightrope walking, magic tricks, balancing on ladders, barrel races and much more!

The Restaurant Winteregg will offer all children a free children's menu or a cervelat sausage on a stick to barbecue. We look forward to welcoming our small guests and their families.

20th Jungfrau Marathon & Mountain Running World Championships

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Jungfrau Marathon, the race from Interlaken up to Kleine Scheidegg at over 2000 metres above sea level will be held twice, on Saturday, 7 September and Sunday, 8 September. Over 8000 runners in total have signed up for the two marathon races. The event begins on Friday with the Jungfrau Minirun for kids, the Jungfrau Minimarathon, which also includes a sponsored run for the Right To Play Foundation, and the Jungfrau Pararace. The Long Distance Mountain Running World Championships will also take place within the framework of the Jungfrau Marathon, for the second time since 2007. The male and female winners of the 2012 Jungfrau Marathon will thus also be Long Distance Mountain Running World Champions. The women will compete for the World Championship title on Saturday, the men on Sunday.

Bernese Oberland – Jungfrau in the House of Switzerland at the Summer Olympics in London

With the slogan "Bernese Oberland – Jungfrau comes to London", Jungfrau Railways will appear in the House of Switzerland during the Summer Olympics in London. The House of Switzerland opened to the public last Friday, exactly one week before the official opening of the Olympics. Various events will take place in the House of Switzerland during the Olympics, including a special day to mark the centenary of the Jungfrau Railway on 1 August. Many traditions and customs will then be displayed and Jungfrau Railways ambassador, Swiss-wrestling King Kilian Wenger, will also be in London. We wish our team and the Swiss athletes success in London!

Steam train trip to Schynige Platte

The Schynige Platte Mountain Railway will get up full steam again this coming Saturday, 23 June 2012. On this day the steam train will make two return journeys up the historic cogwheel railway track from Wilderswil to Schynige Platte.

Great start to the Grindelwald-First summer season!

The Grindelwald-First excursion destination started its summer season one week ago with great success. First is the starting point for popular hikes and also where there’s plenty of action: a ride on the First Flyer or a scooter bike guarantees an adrenaline kick and intoxicating speed. Kids can play to their heart’s content at the 700 m² playground at Bort intermediate station.

Schynige Platte opening

The Schynige Platte Railway begins its summer season next Saturday, 26 May 2012. Enjoy a trip with the historical cogwheel railway from Wilderswil to Schynige Platte at 1,967 metres above sea level. Spring feeling on the ski pistes!

Alpine Sensation, high-Alpine experience on the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe

As part of the Jungfrau Railway centenary celebrations, a 250-metre-long experience round tour - the Alpine Sensation - will open on the Jungfraujoch-Top of Europe on 1 April 2012. This new attraction will create a direct link between the Sphinx Hall and the Ice Palace. Free ski and sledging bus from Biel, Lyss, Bern und Thun!

From tomorrow, Friday, our first free skibus service will operate to Grindelwald-First! From now on, we’re offering a free shuttle-bus service from Bern, Thun, Biel and Lyss. Simply board the bus and you’ll soon be on the ski piste: the bus stops directly at the bottom station of the Grindelwald-First aerial gondola. Skicross day with Olympic Champion Mike Schmid on Grindelwald-First

Yesterday, in the Grindelwald-First ski region, school children learned how to tackle a skicross run. Reigning Olympic Skicross Champion, Mike Schmid, skied over the rollers and jumps on the run with the youngsters and gave them various tips and trick. The skicross course is still open to all who fancy trying out this trendy new sport. Have fun!

Autograph session with Kilian Wenger and other top Swiss-wrestlers

From 11.00 to 12.00 h on Sunday, 4 March, Swiss-wrestling King, Kilian Wenger, and other top Swiss-wrestlers from Canton Bern will hold an autograph session in the Grindelwald-First ski region,  at the Genepi  Skibar & Lounge (just below the top station of the First aerial cableway). The wrestlers will be very happy to see plenty of skiers visiting the Genepi Bar.

The Lauberhorn downhill race is the longest in Alpine ski sport: enjoy the Patroille Suisse air show, international ski stars and the varied fringe programme in the Wengen World Cup Village, on Wengernalp or at the finish. The line-up at the next SnowpenAir promises to be hot! Not only Bryan Adams, but also Polo Hofer, Kim Wilde and Daniel Kandlbauer will make the snow sizzle at 2000 metres above sea level.

This will be the third time for Bryan Adams to appear at the SnowpenAir on Kleine Scheidegg. In an interview with the Schweizer Illustrierte magazine from May 2011, the rock star said: "I well remember one of the most beautiful open-air concerts that I’ve ever played at. It was in Switzerland, on Kleine Scheidegg, in the middle of the mountains. Simply fantastic. Unforgettable!"

Mammut Anniversary Basecamp

The Mammut Anniversary Basecamp with around 200 tents and various special offers is being held on the Jungfraujoch at 3471 metres above sea level in the first week of August.

It is already the 200th anniversary of the first ascent of the Jungfrau. Good reason for Mammut to use this summit as the official first summit in the biggest summit project of all time – the Mammut Peak Project.

Eliana Burki & iAlpinisti live on Schynige Platte

Eight musical evenings are being held in the Schynige Platte mountain hotel and restaurant to celebrate the completion of its extensive renovation.

The fifth concert in the series “Jungfrau Musical Evenings” will be staged on 5 August 2011 and features Eliana Burki & iAlpinisti.

There are few musicians outside the folklore scene who get to grips with the alphorn - one is Eliana Burki. The songs by Eliana & iAlpinisti are marked by impressions which they have collected on their travels.

The sightseeing platform can be built

Jungfrau Railways can build the Two-Lakes Bridge on the Harder Kulm. The around 55m² platform on the Harder Kulm will be completed during the next 6 to 8 weeks.
