The Schynige Platte Railway starts the new season - with new tenants in the mountain hotel and a new puzzle trail

On 13 June 2026 at 7.25 am, the Schynige Platte Railway will set off from Wilderswil towards Schynige Platte for the first scheduled service of the year. Right on time for the start of the 133rd season, the historic trains and the line are ready. The mountain hotel and panoramic restaurant are being run by new tenants, and Lily has a new puzzle trail in store for younger guests.

The view from the summit has been breathtaking ever since the Schynige Platte Railway opened in 1893, attracting many guests from near and far every year. The Skywalk viewing platform, opened in 2025, makes the experience an even more beautiful highlight.

Right next to this attraction, guests can enjoy refreshments at the panoramic restaurant. This restaurant and the adjoining mountain hotel with its rooms are being run by new tenants. They will continue the popular existing offerings such as the culinary journeys (Genussfahrten) as well as the afternoon snack and breakfast tickets, but they will also add new gastronomic touches. The same tenants have also been running the Winteregg restaurant since December 2025.

New puzzle trail and tried-and-tested attractions

The mascot, Lily the cow, awaits younger guests with a new puzzle trail. At nine stations, children learn all kinds of interesting facts about the weather. Anyone who solves all the stations correctly and finds the solution word can pick out a small surprise at the panoramic restaurant and take part in a competition.

As in previous years, the Schynige Platte - Top of Swiss Tradition features the alphorn players. From the start of the season until 25 October 2026, they will perform daily between 11.00 am and 2.00 pm at the Schynige Platte mountain hotel. The numerous hiking trails of varying difficulty are also popular offerings for the whole family. Those who follow the Swiss Flower and Panorama Trail, for example, get to know the rich alpine flora, which changes from month to month.
