Jungfrau Railway, the work of the century and its pioneers.

Adolph Guyer-Zeller’s vision of opening up the Jungfrau massif with an electric cogwheel railway was ground-breaking in the literal sense of the word. A multimedia presentation with 4D effects in the “Alpine Sensation” adventure course immerses you in the world of the railway pioneer at the end of the 19th century. You will then embark on a journey through time on a conveyor belt. The first part shows in the style of romantic painting the longing for the Alps and the development of tourism. The second part of the rolling band show focuses entirely on the construction of the Jungfrau Railway from 1896 to its opening in 1912. Historical photos in large format, accompanied by tools of the era and sounds of railway construction, impressively convey what a pioneering feat the construction of the Jungfrau Railway was and is through the Eiger and Mönch to the Jungfraujoch.

Did you know that…
up to 200 people lived on the Eigergletscher during the construction period, including around 160 Italians. To keep them happy, the construction management gave each worker a bottle of red wine each day. An on-site oven provided fresh bread daily.
