Jungfrau Eiger Walk
The hike leads to a wide, well-developed trail that goes steadily downhill to Kleine Scheidegg. The highlight is the high-Alpine surroundings, with stunning views of the rock and ice masses of the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau seeming almost close enough to touch. The trail leads past the old Mittellegi mountain hut, which used to be located on the northeast ridge of the Eiger. A look inside gives a fascinating insight into the Spartan conditions in the Alpine pioneering days. After the underpass, there is the beautiful Chilchli (tiny church). It is a former Jungfrau Railway transformer station, Today, the listed building hosts an exhibition on ascents of the Eiger North Face. The nearby man-made Fallbodensee (lake) serves as a reservoir to make artificial snow for the surrounding ski pistes in early winter. One part of the lake is only knee deep and can be paddled in; benches in the water offer the chance of a refreshing footbath. Note(s) Mountain hike with no difficult sections or exposed passages. Normal hiking gear, hiking boots with good soles. End of May to mid-October.
