1st How do I get to the Jungfraujoch–Top of Europe?

For the journey to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe, you can choose between three routes.
You can combine different routes/sections of routes.

    The shortest journey is via Grindelwald. From Grindelwald Terminal, you can take the Eiger Express tricable gondola to the Eiger Glacier station. At the Eiger Glacier station, change to the Jungfrau Railway, which takes you through the Eiger and Mönch to the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe, the highest railway station in Europe.

    The first section of the route on the classic Wengernalp Railway is more leisurely. From Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen take the train to Kleine Scheidegg. At Kleine Scheidegg station, change to the Jungfrau Railway, which takes you via the Eiger Glacier to the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe, with Europe’s highest railway station.

    Combination

    From Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen, take the classic Wengernalp Railway to Kleine Scheidegg and get a variety of views of the Jungfrau massif. At Kleine Scheidegg station, change to the Jungfrau Railway, which takes you via the Eiger Glacier to the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe. The return journey is then by the Eiger Express tricable gondola to Grindelwald Terminal via the Eiger Glacier. (or vice versa)

2. Do I need a seat reservation?

    For the journey to the Jungfraujoch, we strongly recommend a paid seat reservation (CHF 10 per person). This reservation is valid for return journeys on the Jungfrau Railway from Eigergletscher / Kleine Scheidegg and ensures that you can travel at the desired time. Without a timed seat reservation, the Jungfrau Railway may well be full at peak times and you will have to wait for the next train. Book now at jungfrau.ch/seatreservation.

    Seat reservation mandatory: 01.05.–31.10.2026

    If you purchase your tickets on site (payment by REKA, cash or Jungfrau Railways vouchers, or special offers that are only available on site), you can secure your seat reservation in advance.

    Seat reservations can be refunded free of charge up until the day before the validity date (23:59 h). You can rebook your seat reservation up to 45 minutes before departure. After that, rebooking is no longer possible. You can cancel / rebook your reservation yourself in the Online customer service center. Refunds on the validity date are not possible.

3. How does boarding work at Grindelwald Terminal, Eigergletscher station or Kleine Scheidegg station?

  • Simple signage shows you where you are allowed to board:


    At Grindelwald Terminal, Eigergletscher station or Kleine Scheidegg station, follow the markings of your colour and pass through the turnstiles towards Jungfraujoch.

    BLUE: Passengers WITH a seat reservation have secured an unnumbered seat on the Jungfrau Railway. 

    YELLOW: Passengers WITHOUT a seat reservation may board the Jungfrau Railway when all passengers with a seat reservation have boarded and as long as there are still free seats.

    PINK: Groups are guaranteed an unnumbered seat on the Jungfrau Railway. 

    • Follow the markings of your colour and pass the turnstiles towards Jungfraujoch at least 10 minutes before train departure. 

  • Boarding Grindelwald Terminal (Eiger Express)

    Go to the turnstiles in the Grindelwald Terminal and follow the relevant colour.

    Passengers WITH seat reservation (BLUE) & groups (PINK) can board the Eiger Express within a time window of 15 minutes: at the earliest 15 minutes before the reserved time.

    Passengers WITHOUT a seat reservation (YELLOW) can board the Eiger Express at any time. However, when changing to the Jungfrau Railway at the Eiger Glacier station, you may have to expect long waiting times.

    At the Eiger Glacier station, you change from the Eiger Express to Jungfrau Railway trains.
    Follow the markings of your colour (blue, yellow or pink) and pass the turnstiles towards Jungfraujoch at least 10 minutes before train departure.

  • Boarding Kleine Scheidegg (Jungfrau Railway)

    If you are travelling by Wengernalp Railway from Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen/Wengen, you will have to change to Jungfrau Railway trains at Kleine Scheidegg station.
    Follow the markings of your colour (blue, yellow or pink) and pass the turnstiles towards Jungfraujoch at least 10 minutes before train departure.

4. What do I have to bear in mind when returning from the Jungfraujoch?

Keep an eye on the time – especially if you are taking a glacier hike to the Mönchsjochhütte (mid-March to mid-October) and enjoying yourself at the Snow Fun Park (mid-May to mid-October). It can take a while to get back to the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe station.

    At the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe station, follow the markings of your colour (blue, yellow or pink) and pass the turnstiles towards Eiger Glacier or Kleine Scheidegg at least 10 minutes before train departure.

    Return journey with the Eiger Express

    If you travel to Grindelwald on the Eiger Express, you have to change trains at the Eiger Glacier station. Follow the “Grindelwald” signs and change to the Eiger Express.
  • Bahnhof Kleine Scheidegg Winter

    Return journey with the Wengernalp Railway via Kleine Scheidegg

    For the return on the Wengernalp Railway, travel to Kleine Scheidegg station and change there (Wengernalp Railway to Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald). Follow the signs for “Grindelwald” or “Wengen” and board the corresponding green and yellow train of the Wengernalp Railway.

5. How do I get to the Jungfrau Region by train?

    Within Switzerland, you can easily reach the Jungfrau Region by train every half hour. 

    Arriving at Jungfraujoch from Interlaken Ost via Grindelwald Terminal (Eiger Express)
    From Interlaken Ost railway station to Grindelwald Terminal via the Bernese Oberland Railway. From there with the Eiger Express directly to the Eigergletscher station. From the Eigergletscher station, take the Jungfrau Railway to the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe.

    From Interlaken Ost railway station to Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald via the Bernese Oberland Railway. Change to the Wengernalp rack railway and go to Kleine Scheidegg. With connections to the Jungfrau Railways to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe.

    How do I get to the Jungfrau Region by car?

    By car you can drive from Basel/Zurich/Geneva via Bern or Lucerne/Brünig (open summer and winter) to the Jungfrau Region. From the south, you can reach the Bernese Oberland via the Grimsel or Susten Pass (only in summer) or via the Simplon Pass (open in summer and winter) with connecting Lötschberg car transport.

8. Good to know: What else should I keep in mind?

  • Dress appropriately

    During your excursion to the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe you will be travelling at an altitude of 3,454 metres above sea level in the high alpine mountain world. Temperatures below freezing point are to be expected in summer and winter. The basic equipment for the excursion includes a jacket, closed shoes, a hat and sunglasses because of the high-altitude sun. With the so-called “onion look” you can adapt to the conditions.

  • Give yourself enough time

    The visit to the Jungfraujoch is a day trip. It is best to reserve a whole day for this. Especially in summer, the hike to the Mönchsjochhütte and a visit to the Snow Fun Park (both on the large Aletsch glacier) are well worth your time.

  • How much does it cost for a child to travel to the Jungfraujoch?

    Children up to 5 years of age always travel free of charge. Children aged 6 to 15 either travel free with the Junior Card or Children's Travelpass, or pay CHF 20.-. The above-mentioned family cards can be purchased for CHF 30 per child at any SBB station in Switzerland.

    From 01.05. to 31.10.2026, children also require a paid seat reservation for CHF 10.

    The family reductions such as the Junior Card, Children's Travelpass or Swiss Family Card are not valid in combination with the Jungfrau Travel Pass or the Unlimited Jungfrau Summer Pass. Children aged 6-15.99 years require the Jungfrau Travel Pass or Unlimited Jungfrau Summer Pass at a price of CHF 30.00 net per child.

  • Can a journey to the Jungfraujoch be broken up at will within one day of travel?

    The journey to the Jungfraujoch can be broken up at will within one day of travel. E.g. a longer stay in Kleine Scheidegg or on the Eiger glacier. When making a seat reservation, the travel times from Kleine Scheidegg or Eiger Glacier must be observed.

  • Can I combine different routes/sections of routes?

    Route options:
    You can choose one route for the ascent and another for the descent. 

    Example 1
    From Grindelwald Terminal with the Eiger Express (quick route) via the Eigergletscher to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe, the return journey via Kleine Scheidegg (traditional route) to Wengen and Lauterbrunnen.

    Example 2
    From Grindelwald Grund via Kleine Scheidegg (traditional route) to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe, the return journey via the Eigergletscher with the Eiger Express (quick route) to Grindelwald Terminal.

  • Is a group reservation necessary?

    Group reservation is required for groups from 10 persons. This can be confirmed at the earliest 3 months in advance. Group reservations can be made online in the following form, by telephone at +41 33 828 72 53 or via e-mail to reservation(at)jungfrau.ch. Groups without a group reservation do not receive group rates.

  • How often does a train go to the Jungfraujoch each day or how many connections are there?

    The fastest and most comfortable way takes you via Grindelwald Terminal / the new Eiger Express tricable gondola to the Jungfraujoch. From the Eiger Glacier station there is a connection to the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe every 30 minutes, depending on season and demand. For details, please visit jungfrau.ch/fahrplan.

  • Can I travel to the Jungfraujoch before my booked/reserved seat time?

    Yes, however, this will result in the forfeiture of your seat reservation. The seat reservation is only valid for the reserved time slot. Passengers without a seat reservation (YELLOW) may board the Jungfrau Railway when all passengers with a seat reservation have boarded and as long as there are still free seats. If all seats are occupied, passengers without a seat reservation must wait for the next Jungfrau Railway train and may have to face longer waiting times at Eiger Glacier station.

  • What should I do if I miss my reserved time?

    You can start the journey without a reservation or pay to book a new reservation. The latter is only possible if there is free capacity.

  • Is the journey to the Jungfraujoch wheelchair accessible?

    For the journey by wheelchair to the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe, it is strongly recommended to use the tricable gondola Eiger Express from Grindelwald Terminal (via Eigergletscher station). If travelling via Kleine Scheidegg, transport cannot be guaranteed in all cases. Pre-booking is essential for groups of 3 or more people in wheelchairs or for the journey via Kleine Scheidegg. A seat reservation is not necessary. Please inform the ticket office clerk at the departure station about the journey so that any assistance can be provided. The Jungfraujoch is wheelchair accessible. The entrance to the Ice Palace is equipped with a wheelchair stair lift.

  • Is my GA or Half-Fare travelcard valid?

    GA
    With the GA you can travel free of charge to Grindelwald or Wengen. Except for public transport, you get a 50% discount. Day tickets excluded.

    Half-fare card
    With the Half-Fare travelcard, you get 50% off the regular fare. 

  • Do I need to buy a ticket for our dog?

    Dogs can be transported free of charge on the following routes:

    • Interlaken Ost - Lauterbrunnen
    • Interlaken Ost - Grindelwald
    • Interlaken - Harder Kulm
    • Wilderswil - Schynige Platte
    • Lauterbrunnen - Mürren
    • Lauterbrunnen - Kleine Scheidegg - Grindelwald
    • Grindelwald - First
    • Grindelwald Terminal - Eigergletscher
    • Grindelwald Grund - Kleine Scheidegg
    • Lauterbrunnen - Kleine Scheidegg
       

    On the route Eigergletscher - Jungfraujoch and return you pay CHF 30 for each dog. Dog tickets are not available online but can be purchased at any Jungfraubahnen sales point.
