Coronavirus: The Swiss Federal Council has declared on 28.2.2020 that public transport, railway stations or ski resorts are not affected by the ban of large-scale events. The Jungfrau Railways operate normally.
Those visiting Schynige Platte with the cogwheel railway will feel transported back to the days of belle époque. The nostalgic railway takes 50 minutes to travel up the 7 kilometre stretch. Wooden benches in the carriages, rolling stock from the 19th century and conductors in historic uniforms recall a bygone era.
During the journey and once at the top, visitors enjoy fantastic views of the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau. Schynige Platte is the departure point for very popular mountain hikes. It is also the site of the Botanical Alpine Garden, home to around 600 species of Alpine plants.
