Good start to 2020 for Jungfraubahn Holding AG – future business developments difficult to predict

Jungfraubahn Holding AG has had a good start to 2020. From 1 January 2020 to 29 February 2020, the company recorded growth in winter sports. 1.7% fewer guests visited the Jungfraujoch in the first two months of the year compared with last year. How business develops in the coming months will depend on the spread or containment of the coronavirus.

By the end of February, 74,000 visitors had visited Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe. This represents a decline of 1,300 guests or 1.7% year-on-year. The months from January up to and including April are generally among the weaker months in terms of visitor numbers.

The positive interim result in winter sports had already been announced with the skier visits in the Jungfrau Ski Region over the holiday period at the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020. From 1 January 2020 to 29 February 2020, 645,000 skier visits were registered for the Jungfrau Ski Region, an increase of 4.9 per cent.

Due to the spread of the coronavirus, short term prospects have tarnished. The management has taken various measures to save costs. How business will develop further is difficult to predict today. It depends on the development of the containment of the coronavirus as well as on the travel activity and travel options of the guests.

Further information on the business development of Jungfraubahn Holding AG will follow at the annual media conference on 26 March 2020.
