With the complete opening of the V-Cableway on 5 December 2020, Jungfrau Railways has entered a new era. In the tradition of the visionary pioneering achievements in the construction of the Jungfrau Railway from 1896 to 1912, two cable cars, a new public transport link, a multi-storey car park as well as a terminal as the valley station and a modern summit station with a connection to the historic Jungfrau Railway were built in eight years from the announcement on 19 December 2012.
The Eiger Express, the heaviest and most modern tricable gondola (3S) in the world, takes guests from the Grindelwald Terminal to the new Eigergletscher station in just 15 minutes. The impressive ride in 26-seater cabins passes by the world-famous North Face of the Eiger. At the new Eigergletscher mountain station, guests can access the ski slopes and hiking trails directly or transfer to the Jungfrau Railway toward the Jungfraujoch. Also departing from the Grindelwald Terminal, the new 10-person gondola Grindelwald-Männlichen (GGM) has been taking guests to the Männlichen in 19 minutes since December 2019.
The new V-Cableway generally reduces travel times by 47 minutes and significantly improve service quality. The V-Cableway will secure the successful long-term future of the entire Jungfrau Region as a premier year-round destination in Swiss tourism. The project lays the foundation for the region’s development into a premium destination. The V-Cableway strengthens the competitiveness of theJungfraujoch as a world-renowned flagship attraction and helps the winter sports destination reach the top position in international competition.
