New Jungfrau Railways train to be delivered

The Jungfrau Railways (JR) rolling stock is being reconditioned. For this, four three-part low-floor trains were ordered from Stadler AG. The first car will be transported from Bussnang to Grindelwald Grund on Tuesday, 16 February 2016.

Jungfrau Railways ordered the new low-floor trains in 2013 from Stadler AG in Bussnang. In recent weeks, various tests have been carried out there on the first completed trains. On Tuesday, 16 February 2016, as long as weather conditions are good, the first car will be delivered. It is expected to arrive at 2 pm at Grindelwald Grund.

The other cars for the first completed low-floor train will be transferred from Bussnang to Grindelwald on 17 and 18 February. Around 15 tonnes of heavy cars will be transported by road on an articulated lorry with a special drop deck trailer. The train will later be transported from Grindelwald Grund to Kleine Scheidegg for final assembly and commissioning. After certification by the Federal Office of Transport (FOT), the train will be put into operation at the end of May. The commissioning of the other trains will take place by the end of August 2016.

New rolling stock concept

The trains were purchased as part of the implementation of the Jungfrau Railways new rolling stock concept and project V-Bahn. The new low-floor trains each have 182 seats, a modern design and the latest standards of safety and travel comfort.
