The change at Schynige Platte comes after 18 years, during which Jasmin and Thomas Willem have welcomed guests to the historic and modern hotel rooms. The current season ended on Sunday. The new host, Louis Holtfreter, intends to continue running the mountain hotel and panoramic restaurant as per the current concept, offering traditional Swiss cuisine and themed hotel rooms. His experience in mountain catering will stand him in good stead, having worked at Gummenalp (NW) and Berghaus Dorschnei (LU), among other places. The new tenants will take the helm at Schynige Platte on 13 June 2026.

Restaurant Winteregg

Earlier, in mid-December 2025, Louis Holtfreter and Armin Baumgartner will take over the Winteregg restaurant as tenants. Christoph Boss had run the business since May 2020. He is now stepping away from running the business for health reasons. Holtfreter will also focus in this restaurant on classic Swiss dishes and tasty mountain cuisine. 

The takeover of Winteregg and Schynige Platte was an obvious choice for the duo and they also convinced the Jungfrau Railways, who own the businesses. Since the Schynige Platte operates for half the year, mainly in summer, and the Winteregg is especially popular in winter, synergies can be exploited.
