V-Cableway construction site info – 25 July 2019

The construction sites in Grindelwald Grund, on the Eiger glacier, along the tricable gondola route and on the Männlichen Railway are running as normal. All sub-projects are still on track.

The following works are currently ongoing and planned for the coming weeks:

Grindelwald Terminal
Grindelwald Terminal BOB stop (Rothenegg):
▪ Start of work on the extension of the bus stop
▪ Start of interior work for the connecting passage

Terminal building:
▪ Completion of shell construction / concrete work (ceilings)
• Continuation of the interior work (electrical, heating, ventilation and sanitary) in the finished shell construction
▪ Continuation of supply line construction

GGM stations and tricable Eiger Express:
▪ Continuation of installation of the aerial cableway technology at the GGM valley station
• Completion of the shell construction (walls and ceilings) of the new tricable gondola Eiger Express valley station
▪ Continuation of metal and timber construction of the exterior walls / roof at GGM and tricable gondola Eiger Express valley stations

Car park
• Continuation of the excavation pit work
▪ The removal of the excavated material away from the valley will take place by truck over the road.
▪ Continuation of concrete work for the foundations and base plate 2. Lower ground floor

Eiger Glacier
• Continuation of shell construction / concrete work (floors/walls/ceilings)

Eiger Glacier station
• Continuation of shell construction / concrete work (floors/walls/ceiling) at the tricable gondola summit station

The WAB material transports between Grund and Salzegg with intermediate storage in the two temporary Salzegg halls will be intensified for the concrete work and take place in parallel to the normal railway operation of the WAB.

Eiger Express route
▪ Continuation of assembly of support columns 5 and 6
▪ Continuation of construction works for the foundations of support column 7

Info Pavilion and construction site news
The Info Pavilion at the office containers in Grindelwald Grund is open seven days a week from 08.00 – 18.00 h. Questions or suggestions can be put into a letter box at the feedback salon or sent by e-mail to [email protected]. For more information on the project: www.jungfrau.ch/v-bahn.

Construction site open day
On Saturday 31 August 2019, a construction site open day will take place in Grindelwald Grund. The Grindelwald Terminal construction site, including car park, can be toured between 10.00 and 17.00 h. Employees are available for questions at information posts for the various sub-projects. Catering and a supporting programme complete the event. It is open to the public and can be visited without prior notice. The tour starts at the Info Pavilion. We recommend travelling by public transport (limited parking spaces). For visitors to the construction site, additional trains run every fifteen minutes on the WAB route from Grindelwald Dorf to Grindelwald Grund. The Bernese Oberland Railway runs between Interlaken Ost and Grindelwald Dorf every half hour according to the timetable.

GGM Männlichen Railway
▪ Continuation of interior work at the middle and summit station
▪ Continuation of installation of the aerial cableway technology at the GGM valley station
▪ 2nd half of August: Cable hoist of the first section (Grund – Holenstein)
▪ First trial runs on the second section route (Holenstein – summit station)
▪ Mid-August: Delivery of the first cabins of the new aerial gondola

Latest news: Bus service (rail replacement) on the Männlichen from Grindelwald Dorf (Bärplatz) and from Grindelwald Grund (in front of the WAB station). Timetable: www.maennlichen.ch.

Parking situation, local bus and bus stop
The Männlichen car park is no longer available for parking. The replacement parking spaces on the south side of the Lütschine and east of the Werkhof will remain in place. The parking at Talgietli and Kilchboden can also be used. The parking is provided via a transport service. The parking fee is CHF 5 per day. There is a night-time parking ban for buses in the Talgietli car park. In the village, night parking is available on Bärplatz.

Eiger Express heavy transport traction cables
Over the nights of 7/8, 15/16 and 23/24 August 2019, the traction cables for the new Eiger Express tricable gondola will be delivered by road. The heavy transport from Zweilütschinen to Grindelwald will take place between 21.00 h and 01.00 h. The crossing over the new base bridge is scheduled for 8.00 h.

During this time, traffic delays and waiting times of up to 40 minutes can be expected on the road between Zweilütschinen and Grindelwald Grund. Posters will be set up to inform road users about the heavy transport.
