Construction site information October 2018

The building work on the V-Cableway is on course and all sub-projects are running at full speed. Thanks to the prolonged summer weather, important progress was achieved from July to September. The current construction site information contains the most important construction works of the coming weeks.

The building work on the V-Cableway is on course and all sub-projects are running at full speed. Thanks to the prolonged summer weather, important progress was achieved from July to September. The current construction site information contains the most important construction works of the coming weeks.


Grund Terminal construction works up to the end of October
1. Infrastructure:

  • The works are under construction.

2. Rothenegg stop:

  • Shell construction of platform facilities up to the Alpha passenger underpass.
  • Preparation of excavation for the prefabricated passenger underpass.

3. Grund terminal:

  • Completion of the shell of the transformer system, transfer of the premises to BKW for the transformer installation.
  • Delivery BKW transformer.
  • Completion of nail wall northern tract.
  • Shell (floor slab and walls) for the Rothenegg and northern tract access corridors.

4. GGM station and tricable Eigerexpress:

  • Completion of floor slab tensioning shaft tricable gondola.
  • Construction of foundation and base plate of the new valley stations.
  • Eigerexpress route construction works

Pillar foundations 1 to 3 are built and covered. The construction of the supports 2 and 3 by Garaventa will take place via a mobile crane. The work on pillar foundations 4 to 6 will continue.


Eiger Glacier construction works

Until the start of winter, the excavation by means of blasting work for the future station will be carried out on the Eiger glacier. The rock excavation for the Eigerexpress cavern mountain station and the Eiger Glacier station extension will continue and the preparations for securing the ski operation in the construction site area (SB Eiger North Face) will be completed.
The commissioning of the material cableway and the start-up of the Salzegg goods logistics will take place at the end of October 2018. From the beginning of October, the existing tracks 1 and 2 on the Eiger Glacier will be relocated.


Info Pavilion and construction site news
The info pavilion is open at the office containers at Grindelwald Grund. It can be visited seven days a week from 08.00 – 18.00 h. There interested parties will learn facts about the V-Cableway as well as the construction progress of the individual subprojects. Questions or suggestions can be put into a letterbox at the feedback salon. If you would rather get the information from the comfort of your home, then
you can visit www.jungfrau.ch/v-cableway. There are also new live webcams available. Flyers will be available at the Jungfrau Railways stations and GGM and information posters will be displayed.

Parking situation and bus stop

  • Coaches park as usual during the day at the Talgietli car park and at night at the GGM car park.
  • Please take note of signs and instructions from the traffic service.
  • The bus stop (local bus) is located directly in front of the Info Pavilion
  • in Grund.
  • In the second half of October, winter parking will be prepared on the south side of the Lütschine and on the east side of the Werkhof. These areas will be used next summer for installation purposes.

GGM Männlichen Railway

  • The summer operation of the Männlichen Railways will run until 21 October 2018. From mid-November 2018, winter operation will commence, depending on the snow conditions.
  • Access to the GGM is along the Lütschine via a skywalk (signposted) and is also guaranteed for pedestrians with walking aids, wheelchairs and pushchairs.
  • Delivery of goods takes place via the construction site access and is always guaranteed.

The clearing work for the pillars between Holenstein and Grund is underway, and the work on the pillar foundations between Holenstein and Grund has been completed. The tree felling will be carried out on the first section (Grund-Holenstein) in October and November. The shell buildings of the Holenstein middle station and Männlichen mountain station will be completed in October, and the cable car technology will be set up in the two stations.


Project of the Grindelwald municipality: Flood protection and development
Construction work in the area of Grindelwald Grund station:

  • Construction of utility lines.
  • Construction of the foundations for the new bridge over the Lütschine.

General works
During the construction period, construction equipment and materials are regularly delivered to the former staff car park behind the Intersport building, both for the construction of the Grund terminal and the construction site on the Eiger glacier. For temporary storage of building materials, a covered wooden shelter and a bulk material hall made of concrete elements are currently being established.
