Jasmin and Thomas Willem took over the mountain restaurant and hotel as tenants in 2008. The renovated building with an extended restaurant section was opened in 2011. Since then, the Willems, who come from Bavaria, have welcomed many regular guests every year, while also maintaining good relations with the neighbouring mountain communities and alpine farms, which are their most important suppliers of cheese.
“All these years, it’s always been like coming home, when it all starts up again every spring,” explains Jasmin Willem. After 17 years, the Willems now want to pursue new projects and ideas that are close to their heart.
Individually designed rooms
The Schynige Platte is famous for its unique sunrises and sunsets. Anyone staying in one of the 17 hotel rooms in the historic part of the building can take advantage of this. Each room is individually designed. They all bear the signature of Jasmin Willem, who loves to decorate while taking into account the history of the house and the local area. In all the rooms you sleep under a starry sky, painted on the ceilings using a special technique from South Tyrol.
Guests are often cooked for by Thomas Willem himself. The trained chef lends a hand wherever he is needed. He often goes hunting in autumn, which is why from time to time guests can enjoy some local game.
Season opening on 14 June 2025 with the new “Skywalk”
This year’s season on the Schynige Platte starts on 14 June 2025 and ends on 26 October 2025. The historic cogwheel railway takes guests on a richly varied journey through beech and fir forests to the Schynige Platte in just under an hour. This lies 1,967 metres above sea level and offers views of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz as well as the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. A new attraction to visit this season is the Schynige Platte Skywalk, a vantage platform right next to the mountain restaurant and hotel.
